General Use

Speed limiting for duty of care and fuel saving

Speed limiting may be imposed by employers as a means of fuel saving, reducing emissions or as part of their duty of care requirements. Employers have a responsibility, under various National Health and Safety Executive guidelines, to actively manage health and safety in the workplace, including vehicles. In a time when duty of care and health and safety are top of most company agendas, the geo-fenced limiter provides the answer.

Geokontrol GPS speed limiter device
How It Works

Automatic geo-fenced speed control

The system empowers the employer to designate their own high-risk areas in addition to our existing and continually updated database of road speed limits. These are pre-loaded as geofences into the Geocontrol device. Each geofence comprises detailed latitude and longitude data which can be refined to cover an area of any size and shape.

As an example, a vehicle visiting an airport with the perimeter plotted in the Geo unit will automatically reduce to the required speed as soon as it passes through the entrance gates, and on exiting reverts back to the normal speed.

The Range

Speed limiters for every throttle system

From cable-throttle to Drive-By-Wire, SENT and GPS geofenced control - a compliant, EU/ECE R89 approved solution for every vehicle in your fleet. Each unit is designed and manufactured in the UK by Autokontrol, part of the Scorpion Group.

Drive-By-Wire (DBW) Speed Limiter

Our flagship electronic speed limiter for modern vehicles with drive-by-wire throttle systems. Precision control, tamper-proof design, CAN bus integration.

Regulatory Compliance

Meets all UK, EU, and international speed limiter requirements. EU/ECE R89 type approved for goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and passenger vehicles with 8 or more seats.

Fuel Savings

Reducing maximum speed by just 10mph can save 10-15% on fuel costs. For a fleet of 50 HGVs, this represents tens of thousands of pounds annually.

Safety

Speed is a factor in 24% of fatal road accidents. Speed limiters actively prevent speeding, protecting drivers, passengers, and other road users.

Insurance Reduction

Many fleet insurers offer 5-15% premium reductions for vehicles fitted with approved speed limiters. The device typically pays for itself within months.

Tamper Resistance

Tamper-resistant sealing prevents unauthorised modification. The system detects and records any attempt to bypass or disable the speed limiter.

Universal Compatibility

Compatible with virtually all commercial vehicles - HGVs, LCVs, buses, and specialist vehicles. Works with both 12V and 24V electrical systems.

SENT Speed Limiter

Speed limiter for the latest generation of vehicles using SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) throttle signals. Future-proof speed control for Euro VI+ and beyond.

Download the full datasheet (PDF)

What happens if I fit a DBW limiter to a SENT vehicle?

It won't work. The DBW limiter expects a PWM or analogue signal. A SENT vehicle transmits digital nibbles that the DBW unit cannot interpret. You will get either no speed limiting or engine fault codes. Always verify your vehicle's throttle protocol before ordering.

Can the SENT limiter be retrofitted to older vehicles?

The SENT limiter is designed for SENT-protocol vehicles. For older vehicles with analogue or PWM throttle signals, use our DBW Speed Limiter. For cable-throttle vehicles, use the System 80 Speed Limiter.

Is the SENT limiter more expensive than the DBW?

Pricing is comparable. The SENT limiter uses more advanced signal processing hardware, but we maintain competitive pricing across all product lines. Request a quote for your specific fleet requirements.

System 80 Speed Limiter

The proven mechanical speed limiter for cable-throttle vehicles. Robust, reliable, and trusted worldwide for decades.

Download the full datasheet (PDF)

Unmatched Reliability

With no electronic components, the System 80 is immune to the electrical failures, water ingress, vibration damage, and software glitches that can affect electronic speed limiters. It operates in extreme heat, extreme cold, dust, and wet conditions without degradation. This makes it the preferred choice for vehicles operating in harsh environments - construction sites, quarries, mines, agricultural land, and developing markets with limited technical support infrastructure.

The Simplest Installation

A trained installer can fit a System 80 in under 90 minutes on most vehicles. The installation requires no specialist diagnostic equipment, no laptop, no CAN bus configuration, and no ECU programming. The unit is installed inline with the existing throttle cable - a straightforward mechanical procedure that any competent vehicle technician can perform.

Lowest Total Cost of Ownership

No firmware updates. No annual software licences. No calibration drift requiring recalibration visits. No battery replacements. The System 80's maintenance requirement is limited to periodic inspection of the cable linkage and tamper seal - typically aligned with the vehicle's existing service schedule. For fleet operators managing hundreds or thousands of vehicles across multiple countries, this simplicity translates directly into lower operating costs.

Globally Certified

The System 80 is type-approved under EU/ECE Regulation R89 and holds certifications from UTAC (France), TÜV (Germany), and VCA (United Kingdom). These approvals are recognised by enforcement agencies across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia - making the System 80 a single product that can be deployed across an international fleet without requiring different hardware for different territories.

Compatible Vehicles

  • Developing market fleets where electronic infrastructure and diagnostic support are limited
  • Construction and plant vehicles operating in harsh, dusty, or wet environments where electronics are vulnerable
  • Older commercial vehicles with cable-throttle systems that predate CAN bus technology
  • Agricultural vehicles required to comply with speed limits on public roads
  • Budget-conscious fleet operators who need reliable speed compliance without the cost of electronic systems
  • Mixed fleets where some vehicles have cable throttles and others have electronic - the System 80 covers the mechanical side while the DBW covers the electronic side

GeoKontrol 2

IoT GPS geofenced speed control. Vehicles automatically adjust speed in 20mph zones, construction sites, or custom geofenced areas - no driver input needed.

Download the full datasheet (PDF)

Urban 20mph Zones

Local authorities across the UK are implementing 20mph speed limits in residential areas. GeoKontrol 2 ensures fleet vehicles automatically comply with these variable speed zones - even when the driver is unfamiliar with the area or distracted.

Construction Sites

Construction sites have strict speed limits (typically 5-15 mph) that change as the site develops. GeoKontrol 2 allows site managers to define and update speed zones in real time as the site layout evolves, without waiting for physical speed bumps or signage.

School Zones

Speed compliance near schools is critical. GeoKontrol 2 can enforce reduced speeds during school hours and relax the limit outside those hours - automatically, based on the schedule programmed in the zone database.

Depots, Warehouses, and Yards

Vehicle speed in depot areas is a common source of accidents and near-misses. GeoKontrol 2 can enforce 5 mph limits within the depot boundary, then allow normal road speeds once the vehicle exits the gate.

Residential Delivery Routes

Last-mile delivery fleets operating in residential areas can use GeoKontrol 2 to automatically reduce vehicle speeds when entering residential zones, improving safety and reducing noise complaints.
